DELTARUNE is the story-driven pixel RPG from Toby Fox, the creator of UNDERTALE - a parallel world with new characters, not a sequel, but the same DNA: sharp writing, an unforgettable soundtrack, and a combat system where talking your way out of a fight is often the smarter play. The version playable here is a fan-made browser port; the official releases are on PC and consoles, with chapters available as a paid game whose future chapters are free updates.
Battles are the heart of the design. Your party - the silent Kris alongside Susie and Ralsei - issues turn-based commands like FIGHT, ACT, spells and DEFEND on a shared timeline. But when the enemy's turn comes, the game flips into live bullet-hell: you steer a heart-shaped SOUL through incoming patterns, grazing bullets to build TP for spells. Many encounters can be ended without killing anyone if you use ACT options to pacify enemies, and the optional hidden bosses are famously brutal. Fox has cited Touhou and Chrono Trigger as touchstones, and it shows in the best way.
Arrow keys move your character and steer the SOUL, Z or Enter confirms and interacts, X or Shift cancels, and C or Ctrl opens the menu - the classic scheme fans of UNDERTALE already know by heart.
Try ACT before FIGHT - a large share of random encounters can be resolved without dealing damage once you learn what an enemy responds to. Use DEFEND on rough turns; it softens incoming damage and banks TP for when you actually need a spell. In bullet-hell sections, read the pattern before reacting - panic-dodging kills more runs than the bullets do. Save healing items for bosses, and do not chase risky grazes when your health is low; TP is not worth a game over.
Worth saying plainly: this is an unofficial fan port of a commercial game, hosted in the browser without the developer's endorsement - if you love it, the definitive way to experience DELTARUNE (and support Toby Fox and pixel artist Temmie Chang) is the official release on PC or Switch. As a free browser taste of one of the best indie RPGs of its generation, though, it plays beautifully here on Parodybox.
